MANILA, Philippines – Vietnam has canceled the scheduled visit of Vietnamese President To Lam to the Senate and his meeting with Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday, June 1.
The Senate’s Office of International Relations and Protocol said that the Vietnamese government canceled the Senate events. No official reason has been provided.
The Monday plenary session had been moved to 5 pm, from the usual 3 pm schedule, in anticipation of Lam’s visit.
Lam arrived in Manila on Sunday, May 31, for a state visit. Earlier on Monday, he was in Malacañang for a bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which was later followed by a state luncheon in honor of the Vietnamese leader.
The visit of Lam, made on the 50th year of Vietnam’s diplomatic relations with the Philippines, is expected to advance trade, security, and maritime cooperation between the two countries. – Rappler.com
